Sometimes, we just need a map.

We all have digital maps on our phones and in our cars, but that wasn’t always the case. Back in the day, everyone had a paper map neatly folded and stored in their glove boxes. Maps were city/county maps, state maps, U.S. maps—it didn’t matter where you were or where you were headed; the map would show you the roads you could take to get there. Today, our digital maps do the same thing, except you don’t have to have several different maps. But there are no digital maps for being a woman, daughter, wife, or mother. Somehow, we’re supposed to pull it all together and get on the highway. There are many books written to help women, daughters, wives, and mothers. However, if you’re a Christ follower, you have the best map: the Bible. As wives and mothers, we travel many different roads on a daily basis. Errand’s, practices, grocery shopping, school—the list goes on and on. We also have roads we must travel that are not as easy, roads that are personal and private. Every day, we travel these roads, hoping to find an exit or directions. The Israelites were in the same position. God told them to leave Egypt and head to the promised land, but they got sidetracked for forty years, traveling around the same mountain. God had given them the map. We are like the Israelites sometimes; we know the plan, but not the map. We know the Bible, we know God’s promises, but sometimes it doesn’t feel that easy. Trusting God’s word, doing what we know we’re supposed to be doing, yet feeling like we’re going around and around the same mountain. People around us seem to be on a direct path to what God wants them to do, but we seem to be sitting on the side of the road with our hazard lights on. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “God knows the plans He has for us, to give us a future and a hope” Although we may feel like we are on the side of the road with our hazard lights on, just know that God is in the passenger seat and loves you more than you can imagine!

This vintage-inspired map is a good reminder of what God has in store for each one of us.
